Your Prior Authorization, Filed and Followed Until You Have an Answer

You come in for a prescription and it is not ready. Your plan wants a prior authorization first, and the message you get is some version of call your doctor. The doctor's office tells you to call your insurance. Nobody in that loop is the one who has to take the medication.

At ThriveRx Health Pharmacy in Delaware, the loop stops at our counter. We see the plan's rejection the moment it comes back, so we know what is being asked for before anyone has to explain it to you.

From rejection to answer

We catch it

The rejection lands on our screen and we read what the plan is demanding.

We build it

We pull your fill history and send the prescriber exactly what the form needs.

We chase it

We stay on the plan until there is a yes or a no, then we call you.

We take most insurance plans, so the card in your wallet is almost certainly one we can push a request through.

What actually holds a request up

Step therapy rules

Many plans refuse a drug until a cheaper one has been tried and failed, and the request has to name that drug and say what went wrong with it.

Blank fields

A missing diagnosis code, lab value, or date sends the whole form back to the bottom of the pile, so we check it before it goes out.

Quantity and dose caps

When a plan will only pay for a set amount or strength, the request has to argue for the dose you were actually prescribed rather than the one the plan prefers.

A covered route instead

If the plan will not move, Larecia Seibert, PharmD, can identify a drug in the same class that is covered and take that option to your prescriber.

What we handle

  • Reaching your prescriber's office and getting the right form in front of the right person.
  • Submitting the request and checking its status until the plan rules on it.
  • Calling you with the decision and what it means for your next fill.

What we need from you

  • Your current insurance card, plus any secondary coverage.
  • A list of what you have already taken for the same condition, with rough dates if you have them.
  • A phone number you answer, since some plans call the patient directly.

Call with your prescription and your plan details and we will open the request from here.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

It is your insurance plan asking for written justification before it will pay for a drug your prescriber already chose. Plans use it on newer drugs, higher doses, and drugs that have cheaper options in the same class. The prescription itself is valid. The plan is holding payment until it sees the clinical reasoning. Can I get the medication while the request is pending? Sometimes. Prescribers can often authorize a short supply to hold you over while the review runs, so ask us to request one. If you would rather not wait on the plan at all, ask about our cash discount plan. On older generics that price is sometimes lower than you expect.

Your plan sets that clock, not the pharmacy. Timelines vary by insurer and by drug, and requests flagged urgent are generally reviewed faster than routine ones. We can tell you the date the request went out and where it stands. Most delays trace back to one missing detail on the form rather than a real dispute.

No. The request travels from the prescriber to the plan, and we work both ends of it. Calling your plan will not speed up a review that is already open, though it is worth calling if you want the coverage rules for a drug straight from them. Either way, the paperwork stays with us.

Usually not. Approvals are granted for a set period, and plans can require a fresh request when that period ends, when your dose changes, or when your plan year resets. Keep the approval letter if the plan mails you one. It makes the next round go faster, because half the answers are already documented.
